Storm Panels

Storm Panels are made from steel or aluminum and attached by bolts on the outside of your windows.  They tend to give additional strength to each one because they are normally installed by staggering them slightly on top of each other.  The result is increased strength for all the individual storm panels.

People prefer these options because they tend to be cheapest way to protect your home aside from basic plywood.  In addition, they can be taken off when not needed allowing the home to keep a more natural appearance.  Also, they are portable.  The knocks on these storm panels is that they are not as durable as some other options and you have to store them when not in use.  This can be a hassle compared somewhat to having to take down Christmas lights each year.  Many people opt to avoid this and go with shutters that are attached to the home.

Customers will find that they can be made from a number of different materials including steel, aluminum or polycarbonate.  In the past, these models did a poor job of allowing in any ventilation or light; however, newer models address this issue by improving the inlet of light and ventilation.  Unfortunately, they tend to have very limited color options and are not very aesthetically pleasing.

Regardless of these disadvantages, many people find these to be a great low-cost protection device against hurricane damage.  At the end of they day, storm panels serve their main purpose very well.
